Found an color work long time ago.
Incarnation by Andrew Messersmith, DP Luca Brinciotte.
The director wants a Sci-Fi look and the reference is Minority Report.
I don't have the breakdowns for this effect so I'll just explain it here. :(

To analyze the film, the most famous look is based on a desaturate, contrasty blue look. but it's more interesting how they deal with the highlight.
For the film if you look carefully, most of the scene are so contrasty that the highlight is over exposed. But that's it's unique way, they put glares on top of it. So what I basically did to color Incarnation is. Desaturate, adjust contrast, move the mid tone to blue or green, make a layer (forgot which mix option), and key the luminance out, soft it, lay it on top of there other layer. |
A unique look is always a colorist's favorite!
